Single Carrot is committed to producing at least one community-based production per season.
Last year, Single Carrot launched a new initiative to create community-based theatre projects. In many theatres, community and education programs exist separately from artistic productions. Our community-based initiatives weave these two areas of programming together by having community members engage directly in the artistic process of mainstage productions. We identify a project and a community to partner with, then work with organizational partners who serve the identified community. These organizations work with Single Carrot to engage their members to participate throughout the theatrical process and shape the piece with their voices, stories and input. We put professional artistic resources toward these productions and presents them as part of our main season. Through this initiative, we can break down barriers to cultural experiences and prioritize inclusion and accessibility. By being true to the voice of the community and then bringing that work to an outside audience, Single Carrot can elevate and showcase those voices and perspectives to engage in civic dialogue around social justice topics.
