Batya joined Single Carrot Theatre as the Development Director in October 2013. Before arriving at SCT, Batya was on location in New York and New Jersey as the production coordinator of OH, LIZA, a web series from Auntie Productions. She has accumulated fundraising experience from work in the development offices and alongside the managing directors at Baltimore’s Center Stage and Everyman Theatre. After graduating with honors from Pitzer College in Claremont, CA (Special Major: The Psychology of Theatre in the Middle East), Batya worked in DC-area theatres as a line producer and assistant to the artistic director at Theater J; script reader at Arena Stage and for the Source Festival; assistant director at Round House Theatre; and stage manager at the Capital Fringe Festival. She was associate director of Married Sex, a solo play by Laura Zam that ran through summer 2013 at FringeNYC and was a semifinalist for the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, and in summer 2014 she produced The Sun Experiment in New York for HelikonRep. Batya was a dramaturg for SCT’s production of Social Creatures (Season 8) and organized the panel discussions for The Memo (Season 7), The Apocalypse Comes at 6 PM (Season 7), and Social Creatures. She is excited by ensemble-based and physically daring theater, and embraces work that examines race, gender, and difference.
