Single Carrot Theatre believes that theatre can and should play a role in the dismantling of systems of oppression and it is our responsibility to hold ourselves accountable to that value.

Anti-Racism Action

SCT will convene its Anti-racism committee…

… to review current policies and identify those that cause harm to marginalized communities and remove or re-write them as needed. We invite anyone who would be interested in speaking to or becoming a part of the committee to reach out to gdemahy@singlecarrot.com.

SCT will continue to…

… work fervently to ensure our organization is reflective of Baltimore City’s diverse population within the ensemble, staff, board, and leadership. Including, but not limited to, the recruitment of diverse candidates for all staff and board positions, and more outward facing communication regarding opportunities within SCT.

SCT will develop a production procedure…

… that prevents the company from moving forward with any future productions without key components in place BEFORE inviting guest artists to devote their time, energy, and talents to the production. The company plans to meet in January to develop said procedure and post for public comment here.

SCT is meeting with its governing bodies…

… (the board and ensemble) to strategize a future production plan that is within the organization's staff and financial capacity. That strategic plan is in development and will be announced before the end of Fiscal Year 23 (July 31, 2023).

SCT is working to…

… dismantle white supremacy by following the demands of We See You White American Theatre, a collective of BIPOC artists calling out white supremacy in the theatre industry and demanding change. You can learn more about them www.weseeyouwat.com. In January 2023, SCT will be releasing a progress report based on those demands.

SCT has created channels…

… for community members to offer direct feedback that can be used in further steps towards becoming an actively anti-racist organization. Not only will general feedback forms be added to the website, but direct questions regarding anti-racisim will be added to all post-production surveys and conversations. If you would like to offer any feedback, please visit the following google form: https://forms.gle/25q3dnZw8b6f3t7P9.
