In/After School Learning
Single Carrot Theatre offers a wide array of school-day and out of school (OST) programming for students of all ages and experience levels. Centered on the guiding principles of Co-Creation and Collaboration, SCT’s learning programs empower students as both individual artists and members of a creative ensemble.
Each SCT course invites students into playful engagement with arts education based on modern experiential learning and devised theatre concepts. Over the course of these classes, students explore and harness their own creative voices as they collaborate and co-create under the guidance of SCT’s expert teaching artists. Class series vary in length, ranging from two-week residencies to quarterly courses. In every educational context, SCT’s programs provide students with enriching and transformative experiences to last a lifetime.
Story Journeys: Live!
Grades Pre-K – 2
Students explore dynamic and theatrical stories from around the world in this literacy-based, arts-integrated series. Through playful inquiry, students move, sing, dance, and act as they forge personal connections to written texts and step into the role as dramatic co-creators of each story.
Living Learning
Grades 2 – 8
Through process-drama practices, students grades 2-8 explore and apply their classroom studies in ELA, science and social studies in this arts-integrated program. As students improvise, design, and devise original dramatic creations, they develop ownership over their learning in new ways while developing collaborative theatre practices, SEL skills, and their unique artistic voice.
Craft Theatre Series
Grades 3 – 12
Developing craft is the core of this skill-based theatre series. Students focus on learning a particular theatrical practice from working professional teaching artists. By the end of the 6-12 week program, students will have a new performance or design skill to add to their artistic toolbox as well as a deeper understanding of how those skills can be utilized in the professional theatre world.
Theatre: By Us
Grades 3 – 8
Students take center stage as they collaboratively devise an original theatrical creation in this 2-4 week residency program. Utilizing improvisation, creative writing, and physical practices, students move, speak, dance, and sing a brand-new work of theatre into being. This residency concludes with a final sharing performance, as well as the presentation of a physical record to serve as a lasting reminder of the students’ artistic accomplishments.
Student Matinees
Grades 8 – 12
Students experience SCT’s innovative theatre productions firsthand and get a backstage pass to the production process at panel discussions with SCT resident directors, performers, and designers.
